The Texas Centennial was a series of festivities celebrating the 100th anniversary of Texan independence and eventual statehood. Although the official centennial took place in 1836, Throughout the surrounding decade, dozens of new monuments were erected to commemorate the heroes of the Texas War of Independence and the founding of the Republic of Texas. Additionally, a statewide push to renovate public buildings and historic sites took place.
