Tobias Trutwin (* 18. November 1964 in Bonn is a German artist.

Biography

He studied communications design (with a major in Photography) at the University of Essen, followed by artistic photography with Jürgen Klauke, and finally with Rudof Bonvie.

In 1997 he transferred to Astrid Klein's fine arts class in the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig (HGB). He obtained his diploma with decoration in the department of painting in 2001, and continued as a master pupil of Astrid Klein until 2003.

Work

His first computer-generated work dates back to 1998, a monumental glass piece reminiscent of the film Pulp Fiction and the Altarpiece in Ghent. Glass images with the most varied motifs and format have since then become a hallmark of Trutwin's work.

The main themes of his work revolve around the biblical interdiction of the image, early Flemish and Dutch painting, centered around Jan van Eyck, and the gothic cathedral window, as well as an inquiry into the question of art: What is art and how does it function?

Tobias Trutwin’s glass works are featured in internationally renowned collections.

He has lived and worked more than ten years in Paris, and is active in Berlin since 2006.
