Marc Albanese new article content ...
Marc Albanese (born Marc Benjamin Albanese) July 1, 1963 Syracuse, NY is a Boston-based American singer-songwriter, guitarist who writes and plays optimistic, passionate and original music. He is also a visual artist with works in realism.
STYLE
Albanese plays a mix of styles including... acoustic rock, folk, blues, indy, soul, country, funk, stride, jazz, roots-reggae and Americana.
BACKGROUND
Albanese was born and raised in upstate New York. Although he had his first guitar at age 11, he didn't pursue music seriously until studying fine art in college (University of Hartford). His great-grand father Jan Williams was a world renowned clarinetist (John Phillip Sousa, New York Philharmonic) and was the closest musician in his family, so his musical journey started basically solo. After an epiphany, he moved to Boston and attended Berklee College of Music, studying Music Production & Engineering and songwriting.
In 1991 he joined the locally popular funky reggae band One People, playing lead guitar and singing. He developed a dynamic stage presence and a deft Jamaican dancehall vocal delivery, and evolved into the primary writing force of the band. One People toured the country playing thousands of shows and shared the stage with luminaries such as Burning Spear, Culture, Run DMC, Outkast, Live, Moe, Soul Coughing, Carbon Leaf, Naughty By Nature, Disco Biscuits and others. They produced 3 albums and have been dormant since 2004.
In 2003 Albanese started writing profusely in a wide variety of styles, not solely concentrating on roots & dancehall reggae and funk. He stared exploring the roots of his childhood musical influences... classic rock, folk, jazz, soul, bluegrass, mostly guitar led songs.
In 2008 he assembled an acoustic trio called Marc Albanese and the UPSTREAM which features Pat Santorelli on drums and Dave Kenderian on fretless electric bass. They are currently developing and refining a collection of several dozen original songs and are performing live and in the studio. Their sound is similar to a mix of Dave Matthews, Bob Marley, John Haitt and Xavier Rudd.
Albanese is also a visual artist and paints portraits, landscapes and illustrations. He and his wife Kim Poler own a vibrant art studio for kids called Beehive Art in Sudbury, MA.
