Witchskull is a Heavy/Stoner Metal band from Canberra, Australia.

History

[edit]

Witchskull were formed in 2014 by Tony McMahon (bass), Joel Green (drums) and Marcus De Pasquale (vocals, guitar).[1] Green is formerly of Armoured Angel, and De Pasquale also plays in Looking Glass[2][3].

Their debut performance was at the ANU Bar in September 2014,[4] and they have also had gigs in Sydney and Melbourne.[5]

The band was one of the first to record at the new Goatsound Studios in Melbourne.[6]

Their album The Vast Electric Dark reached number 1 in the Doom Charts for December 2015.[7][8] The album then ranked as number 15 in Doom Charts' "Best of 2015".[9] It was released on vinyl by STB records[10] and later released worldwide by Ripple Music on CD and digital download on 23 September 2016.[11] The album artwork is by Lisa Engeman.[12]

The second album has been recorded in New York at Studio G with producer Billy Anderson[13], Jason Fuller, and a documentary team.[14] During the band's visit to New York, they performed a showcase gig, The Rage for Armageddon Fest at Saint Vitus Bar, Brooklyn (30 October, 2016).[15] The second album and documentary have not yet been released.

Witchskull will play at the ANU Bar's last heavy music event on 27 May 2017,[16] prior to the venue's closure in June 2017.[17] The ANU Bar was a former venue for Metal for the Brain, an event organised by band-member Joel Green when he was in Armoured Angel.[17]
