Lieutenant General Rajeev Chaudhry, VSM is a serving General Officer in the Indian Army. He currently serves as the Director General Border Roads since 01 December 2020. He last served as the Additional Director General (LW & E) in Quarter Master General’s Branch at Integrated Head Quarters, Ministry of Defence, New Delhi. Previously, he was the Chief Engineer, Southern Command.
Early life and education
[edit]After his schooling, he joined the National Defence Academy (NDA). After NDA, he joined the Indian Military Academy and was commissioned as an officer. He married Mrs Renu Chaudhry, MA (Political Science) & LLM from Delhi University. General officer excelled in his all professional courses while serving in Indian Army and is B.Tech in Civil Engineering, M tech in Structures from IISc, Banglore, M.Sc in Defence studies from Madras University, Chennai, Diploma in Senior Level Management Studies from Devi Ahilya Viswa Vidyalaya, Indore and dual M Phil degree in Defence & Management studies and Defence & Strategic studies from Devi Ahilya Viswa Vidyalaya, Indore and Madras University, Chennai respectively.
Career
[edit]Rajeev Chaudhry was commissioned into the Bengal Sappers, 63 Engineer Regiment in the Corps of Engineers, in December 1983. He is an alumni of National Defence Academy, Khadkwasla. The General officer has spent large amount of his service with troops in difficult areas including Far East, Rann of Kutch, Joshimath, Plains of Punjab, Deserts and five tenures in J&K. He has commanded Engineer Fd Coy, Engineer Regiment and 471 Engineer Brigade wherein, he was awarded Vishisht Seva Medal for distinguished service. He has been part of Op Brasstrack, Op Trident, Op Bajrang, Op Rakshak and Op Parakram. He has also been responsible for conceptualising and conducting the first ever and only Engineer Brigade Exercise with US Engineer Brigade as part of Exercise YUDH ABHYAS, series of joint exercises, between USA and India in Mar 2012. The General Officer is a graduate of Defence Services Staff College Wellington, Higher Command Course Army War College, Mhow and National Defence College. He has been Commander of Cadet’s Training Wing, Pune and Commander, Faculty of Combat Engineering at College of Military Engineering, Pune. He was also nominated as Ex Director of EX FORCE 18, one of the largest multinational exercise on Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA), in Mar 2016, where 260 delegates from 18 countries participated. He has to his credit to be selected for conceptualising, planning and preparing initial designs for first Strategic Command Post with CBRN protection in the country post Nuclear Tests in May 1998.
After promotion to the rank of Major General, He had a successful stint as Chief Engineer Southern Command and thereafter Additional Director General (LW & E) in Quarter Master General’s Branch at Integrated Head Quarters, Ministry of Defence, New Delhi. Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General , He serves as the Director General Border Roads succeeding Lieutenant General Harpal Singh on his appointment of Engineer -in - Chief.
Honours and decorations
[edit]He is a recipient of the Vishisht Seva Medal.[2][3] Apart from these, he has been awarded the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Commendation Card and GOC-in-C commendation card.[4] He was awarded as the ‘CONSTRUCTION WORLD Person of the Year 2021 - Public Sector’ at the 19th edition of the CONSTRUCTION WORLD ANNUAL AWARDS (CWAA) and Achievement Award for Public Officer (From Govt. & Public sector) at 13th CIDC Vishwakarma Awards 2022.
