Introduction
[edit]Wikification Assignment is a practice page for Addshore's markup assignment. The relevance of the text is marginal, as this is a coding practice page. I am using the WikEd script as an improvement over the default editor provided. I'm pretty comfortable with basic html editing so sometimes it's just easier to hand code than try to remember which icon is which. I'm also not going to use any of WikEd's fix functions.
Use of blockquote and reference use of plainlink
[edit]I almost bought How Wikipedia Works And How You Can Be a Part of It [1] but a print book is so lo-tech in comparison to digital versions.
One of the books on wikibooks got me to think of going back to sleep after I read the opening statement:
Your own expectations will have a significant effect on your dreams. If you believe that dream characters act dull and lifelessly, they are far more likely to do so. If you believe they can be creative, original, and surprising, they are far more likely to be. Remember that the easier you think it is to dream lucidly, the easier it will be. [2]
photos and media
[edit]I was going to put Media:Example.ogg on the left side and the image on the right side of this section. The [[Image:example.ogg]] image file for ogg doesn't look aesthetically pleasing to me so I'm just using the media tag. looks much better using the audio template. The picture is my first picture uploaded for Wikipedia. This sure seems to take extra coding than is provided by the buttons. I found help at Wikipedia:Markup_language#Images for images. I suppose,if I wanted to go with my original plan to put the sound example and the image example with the text in between them, I'd have to use a table.
I thought I had everything figured out for this section but I see that the photo intrudes into the next section. I think I'll just use breaks to fill this section out. I suppose I could resize the photo.
Previous section in a table
[edit]Want to hear some cool sounds? Ok, it's not that cool but I need to add some padding in this cell. |
Since there isn't much to making a table, I'll see what the preceeding section looks like in a table. Yes, that does work. However, I see that the border doesn't look very good. Help:Table explained the border parameter so I changed it to a zero and foud out it wasn't that simple. Taking out the class= wikitable seems to have worked. Now, I need some cellpadding. I think it finally looks reasonable. Nothing is as simple as it seems at first glance |
