William Samuel Evens ... William Samuel Evens (March 7, 1913 - July 30, 2009) was born in Chicago, IL to Mary Frances Sutton and William Albert Evans. Growing up in Barrington, IL and attending the University of Chicago, Evans studied engineering. After graduation Evens moved to La Jolla, CA in 1940 where he worked for Convair, Ryan and General Dynamics until he retired in the late 1960s.
Evans married Margaret Barstow ( ???? - 2003) in 1941. The Evans' had a single child, Peter Evans.
Aeronautical Designer & Experimental / Homebuilt Aviation Pioneer Evans was retired in the mid to late 1960s when his wife challenged him to find a better hobby than watching television. This was the catalyst which would bring about the design of the Volksplane in 1968.
