The 2024–25 Jeopardy! tournament season is a series of tournaments for the American television quiz show Jeopardy!, scheduled to be broadcast from December 2024 to mid-2025. The main tournaments will feature civilian contestants that appeared in regular-play episodes on or after April 10, 2024.[1]
Jeopardy! has traditionally hosted an Tournament of Champions (TOC) approximately once a year in which the top contestants appearing since the last TOC—including, at a minimum, any contestants winning five or more regular-play games—could compete for additional cash prizes.[citation needed] Since 2021, under executive producer Michael Davies, the show has expanded its tournament season, providing opportunities for other past champions, as well as high-performing non-champions, to potentially reach the TOC.[citation needed] Additional tournaments and competitions featuring past TOC winners and other previous competitors, including Jeopardy! Masters, were also launched.[citation needed]
Second Chance
[edit]The Second Chance competition features contestants that had high scores during their initial appearances but failed to win their games.[citation needed]
On November XX, 2024, the producers announced via an episode of the Inside Jeopardy! podcast that the Second Chance competition for the season would consist of two one-week tournaments, each featuring nine competitors and a two-game final. The winner of each tournament will qualify for an upcoming Champions Wild Card tournament. These will be broadcast the weeks of December XX and XX, 2024.
In order of first appearance, the eligible competitors are:
Champions Wild Card
[edit]The Champions Wild Card competition features contestants that won at least one regular-play game (or a Second Chance tournament) but did not win enough games to qualify directly for the Tournament of Champions.[citation needed]
On November 18, 2024, the producers announced on Inside Jeopardy! that the Champions Wild Card competition for the season would consist of a single two-week tournament with fifteen competitors, and would follow the format used for the Tournament of Champions from 1985 to 2021. The winner of the tournament will qualify for the Tournament of Champions.
Tournament of Champions
[edit]The Tournament of Champions is held approximately annually and features the most successful regular-play champions since the previous TOC.
On the November 18, 2024, edition of Inside Jeopardy!, the producers announced TKTK. They also announced that Lisa Ann Walter, who had qualified as the champion of season 2 (2023–24) of the primetime Celebrity Jeopardy! series, would not be available due to a scheduling conflict with filming for Abbott Elementary.[citation needed]
