Grandville
[edit]Grandville is an industrial town on the outskirts of the Greater Hempton Area. It was founded in 1811 by the Opdoke brothers, Robert and Corby, who were fleeing religious persecution from Greater Hempton. A small band of thirty-two pioneers, who also formed the congregation of the Opdoke church, followed.
Main Attractions
[edit]Today Grandville features a state-of-the-art water park, a zoo, a religious museum, and the junior-college, Cherrycork Junior College.
Celebrities from Grandville
[edit]Ernst Blanton, the esteemed mustache make-up artist, was born in Grandville in 1899 and lived there until 1909, when he first emigrated to Hungary.
Barbecue
[edit]Grandville is the Home of Barbecue. Barbecue was invented in Grandville in 1820 by Corby Opdoke, who also invented cole slaw. Barbecue remains a proud tradition in Grandville, and many locals and tourists spend their Saturday evenings or Sunday nights eating ribs at either Corby's or Miss Cindy's.
Sports
[edit]The main sporting team in Grandville are the Cherrycork Grands, the baseball team.
Alternative Aeronautics
[edit]The Grandville Aeronautical Academy is one of the world's top flight schools for alternative aircraft. The school was started in 1944 by Professor Howard Forth, who discovered an alternative aircraft one night in his wheat field. Over many years and with help from the Others, Howard became a top notch pilot. In 1962, the same year the Others passed away, he opened up his flight school.
The Great Epidemic
[edit]In 1840 and 1841 a great "blind fever" epidemic swept through Grandville and decimated nearly 20% of the population, or 41 people. It was later determined that the cause of this epidemic was contact with Germ carriers from outside Grandville. Thus the Great Barrier was erected which divided Grandville from Greater Hempton.
Religion
[edit]The Opdoke Believers believe in a strict interpretation of the Bible as described in Corby Opdoke's book: "What the Lord Means in the Big Book".
The Opdoke Believers believe boils down to a few core beliefs:
-A Settler shall be proud. -A Settler shall take a wife. -A Settler shall have a dog. -A Settler shall carry a gun. -A Settler shall bathe at least every fortnight. -A Settler shall do whatever an Opdoke asks without question. -A Settler shall never look an Opdoke in the eye. -A Settler shall work from morning until night. -A Settler shall allow an Opdoke to take his wife when requested.
