Noblella madreselva is a species of frog in the Craugastoridae family.[2] It is endemic to Peru. The frog was found in La Convención Province, which is partially protected by national reserves.[3]
Etymology
[edit]The specific epithet, madreselva, translates to "mother jungle" in Spanish.[4] It honors the efforts of local conservation initiatives, such as the local ecotourism lodge Madre Selva[5] and the ecological project Sircadia, that aim at protecting the delicate and biologically rich montane forest ecosystems in the region. The new frog is locally abundant in parts of the forest that are protected from logging.
Description
[edit]The distinct ventral surface (the chest & belly) has a prominent white mark on a black background.[6] The face is a brown "mask".
