I have academic interests in nationalism, national identity, nation building, ethnic minorities, minority languages, ethnic conflict, international relations and sociolinguistics, particularly in the territory of the former Soviet Union. I also have wide-ranging interests in music, film, literature, travel, politics, philosophy and history.
In addition to my native English, I speak fluent German, Russian and French as well as a bit of very basic Malay.
