Joshua Hayward (formerly known as Joshua Von Grimm and Joshua Third) is a British musician, known for playing guitar in The Horrors. Hayward was born on December 15th, 1984.
Hayward is best known as guitarist for The Horrors, an Alternative Rock band formed in Southend-on-Sea. He is known for his innovative methods of guitar playing, and is particularly interested in making and altering guitar pedals and effects, an interest which stems from his fascination with making things reactive, and an obsession with feedback. One of the Horrors' early fanzines features a step-by-step guide to altering an effects pedal, as written by Hayward.[1] Having achieved a Physics degree from University College London, he used this, along with a childhood fascination with technology to create innovative and creative new sounds on The Horrors' albums, particularly 2009's Primary Colours. [2]
Hayward's musical inspirations include shoegaze bands such as Sonic Youth[3] [4] and My Bloody Valentine[5]
