From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The women of Julius Caesar includes any of the wives, mistresses, fiancées, courtesans or concubines he is known to have had relationships with in his life.

Relationship with women

[edit]

It is generally agreed upon among historians that romantic or sexual relationships with women did not hold any great power over Caesar,[1] the rare exception being his long-time misstress Servilia,[2][3][4][5] and possibly his wife Cornelia.

Notes

[edit]
  1. ^ The woman, born Claudia was originally a patrician (aristocrat), but was adopted by a plebian (commoner) father, after which she and her brother Publius Claudius Pulcher changed the spelling of their nomen (clan name) to Clodia and Clodius respectivly to reflect their new status. Her nickname Quadrantaria likely derived from the fact that she was the fourth daughter of her birth father, as this was the common naming scheme for daughters in Rome at the time. She and her sisters were named Claudia Prima, Claudia Secunda, Claudia Tertia, Claudia Quarta and Claudia Quinta, meaning that Quadrantaria (from quadron "a quarter") was a nickname for Quarta.[9][10][11]
