Gopinathrao Pandurang Munde (born 12 December 1949) is an Indian politician from the state of Maharashtra, often called a Lokneta, meaning a people's leader. He is currently serving as the 18th Chief Minister of Maharashtra and the first from the BJP.
He is a senior leader of the BJP and served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha from 2009 to 2014, as Union Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water and Sanitation in Narendra Modi's cabinet in 2014 and as the Union Minister for Water Resources and River Development and Health and Family Welfare in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's cabinet between 1999 and 2004.
Munde is also well-known for his efforts in curbing the underworld in Mumbai during his tenure as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, overseeing the Ministry of Home Affairs from 1995 to 1999, under Chief Minister Manohar Joshi.
