Wayne Gorbea (October 22, 1950- September 15, 2015) is an American traditionalist Salsa band leader, pianist of Puerto Rican ancestry.[1] His band were rechristened Salsa Piccante by Manny Oquendo.
He taught himself piano listening to Richie Ray Charlie Palmieri and Eddie Palmieri. His earliest band was the Orchestra "Cuda". He switched to Conga founding new band, "La Nueva Comparsa". "Conjunto Salsa '73" before finally being renamed "Salsa Picante" in 1973 [2]
His "Cogele el Gusto" featured on Week 12 of Strictly Come Dancing (series 7); a Salsa performance by Laila Rouass and Anton du Beke.
Wayne Gorbea and Salsa Picante featured on the 2014 album The Rough Guide to Latin Music for Children.
