Push Me Pull You received "generally favorable reviews" according to review aggregator Metacritic for the PlayStation 4.[1]
Megan Farokhmanesh and Allegra Frank of Polygon praised the game's visuals describing as "striking" for being "cutesy and colorful, and utterly disgusting". They compared the characters to human centipedes describing it overall as "gross in a playful way". Polygon also praised the appealing nature of the game and that it quick to learn but takes many games to master. However, Polygon gave critism for the potential of "control confusion" in the different game variants. They went on to says "The game's best quality is that it's an accessible multiplayer experience, first and foremost" and that it is " one of the most fast-paced, unique and entertaining additions to the genre in recent memory"
Kill Screen's Davis Cox called it a "vicious and gross" game, but "adorable". Cox said it is a mixture of an association football match, sumo wrestling, and the body-horror nightmare of The Human Centipede (2010). Cox called the soundtrack (by Dan Golding), a "haphazard cacophony of flutes and cowbells, squawking clarinets and a rubber-band marching band tuba bouncing along". Cox called it messy but delightful. He went on to say that "maximum attention paid to detail and design". Cox says it excels as a "pick-up-and-play title - it simplifies the idea of sports games in an effortless albeit nauseous way." Cox noted that inclusion of An unobtrusive “colorblind mode” carefully swaps the game’s palette" - accessablity. Cox compared the game to other local multiplayer titles TowerFall (2013), Nidhogg (2014), and Sports Friends (2013) saying that Push Me Pull you combines those game's sense of competition, chaos, and approachability. Cox also said it "Push Me Pull You proves that the “new arcade” of previous years is not dead; it’s been developing into something weirder, funnier, and brighter than we’d expected.".
