If demoted

How to close and demote a topic.

1. Determine the consensus, saving oldid #.

   1. {{archive top|result='''Closed with a consensus to demote''' – ~~~~}}

   2. {{archive bottom}}

2. Remove from Wikipedia:Featured topic removal candidates.
3. Add to Wikipedia:Featured and good topic removal candidates/2024 log.
4. Update the tallys on Template:Featured topic log.
5. Update the {{ArticleHistory}} template on the talk pages of all articles in the topic. Remember to remove the relevant ftname (and ftmain=yes)
   1. follow the example below.

      | action2date = DATE AND TIME THAT STEP 1 WAS COMPLETED (format example: 21:38, 5 January 2021)
      

      | action2link = Wikipedia:Featured topic removal candidates/NAME OF TOPIC/archive1

   2. Make sure "action#" is accurate – will probably differ per article
   3. Remove "ftname=" and (if the main article) "ftmain"
   4. Remove {{GTRCmain}} from the main article
6. Update {{Featuredtopictalk}} on Wikipedia talk:Featured topics/ExampleTopicName and add the Topic Milestones as per here.
7. Update the topic box itself (like topic icons or add new articles that are now in the scope).
8. Remove from Wikipedia:Featured topics or Wikipedia:Good topics.
9. Add to Wikipedia:Former featured topics
10. Update the total topic count at Wikipedia:Featured topics/count or Wikipedia:Good topics/count, as appropriate.

If kept

1. Close the nomination:

1a. '''Closed with a consensus to keep the topic in question''' – ~~~~

1b. Optional: Use {{Archive top}} via {{Archive top|result=Kept – ~~~~}} & {{Archive bottom}}

2. Remove the nomination from the removal candidates page

3. Update the topic's main article. Adjust the action # as necessary.

3a. Update the topic's {{Featuredtopictalk}} on its talk page (ex):

4b. Update {{article history}} (ex). There's no GTR for this template, use FTR instead. Adjust the action # as necessary.
