thanks

... for inviting me to talk. I have been an occasional Wikipedia contributor for a few years but I've recently worked on my user page and I am happy to see a the growth of a community of users here. --User:Lpgeffen 26 January 2006

Kerrysfrench

Beware: user Kerrysfrench has recently signed some vandalizing of his under your nickname. I think someone has to make him behave, as most, if not all of his contributions are repeated vandalism. Belard 14:10, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Don't worry, user Kerrysfrench has been blocked from editing wikipedia indefinetely.

a small question

Thanks for the welcoming message. I do have a small question: Do you know how to get userboxes's lined up vertically. Im not able to get that to work. Any help would be appreciated. Darsh5000 18:51, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Happy Whatever

Thanks for the (somewhat generic) welcome message you left on my talk page, but I'm not as new to the Wikipedia as you assume. ;-) 33 months of happy editing and counting, although under several nicknames. Anyway, who cares, I just popped in to say Hello. And happy Hannukah, Christmas, or whatever, as unfortunately we are approaching the unnamed-december-consumerism-festivities, more frequently known as Christmas... So, a non-religious, global greeting: Happy Wiki-ing! Belard 04:35, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Giordano Bruno picture

I have seen you published in en.wikipedia the picture called Brunostatue.jpg; since it has a free licence, why don't you put in in wikicommons?? it is a nice picture of the square Campo de' fiori and I may use it for the related article in it.wikipedia as well Alejo2083 13:13, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

Your recent edit appears to have truncated the article. Is this what you intended to do? Kelly Martin 01:39, May 27, 2005 (UTC)

The edit was done in good faith; only the sections of the article after the picture were cut off. I've restored the text now, so it should be okay. Thanks for the picture! --HappyCamper 02:52, 27 May 2005 (UTC)

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. --W(t) 02:01, 2005 May 29 (UTC)

Oops, ignore that, my mistake. Happy editing! --W(t) 02:01, 2005 May 29 (UTC)

Parmezan cheese

I saw you added some images to Parmesan cheese. Could you add some copyright info on them on the image description page? If you need help, just ask. Mgm|(talk) 18:29, May 31, 2005 (UTC)

  • Read up at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and look especially at {{GFDL-self}}, {{PD}} and the different Creative Commons Licences. If you still don't know: Do you want to be credited when your images are used? Do you require people to use the same license as you do when they make derivative works? Mgm|(talk) 22:32, May 31, 2005 (UTC)
  • Okay, thank you. Mgm|(talk) 15:03, Jun 1, 2005 (UTC)

Another note, Image:Ibexes.jpg is also untagged. You need to tag every image that you upload to wikipedia (if it's not yours, tag it with whatever licence info is appropriate. Any other images you've uploaded in the past will need to be tagged too. If it turns out that some of them are still under copyright and can't be shared, we'll have to delete them unfortunately (I hope not, that Ibexes picture is great. I actually would like to nominate it for a featured pic but can't until the copyright status is cleared up.) -Lommer | talk 03:43, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I'll copyright tag all my pics right away! Sputnik

Thanks! -Lommer | talk 17:18, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

On a side note, how do I know if my picture gets nominated? Can I view the selection/voting process? Sputnik

Hi Sputnik, you probably won't know if your picture gets nominated unless you nominate it yourself. Alternatly, you can regularly check Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates, where you can view the selection and voting process for all FPCs. That's actually one of my favourite pages, because there's a lot of interesting pictures that go though there (even ones that don't make it). -Lommer | talk 22:30, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
P.S. You may want to sign your edits with ~~~~ or ~~~ rather than just Sputnik, as those automatic sigs will create links back to your user and talk pages.
I've gone ahead and nominated Image:Ibexes.jpg. Just thought I'd let you know. -Lommer | talk 23:06, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanx!! Sputnikcccp

Uploading images to Commons

Hi, I like your image Beijing_sundial.jpg and think it should be available in Commons (espacially I want to use it in the ). Though I could also simply upload it there, I always prefer they get moved/uploaded by the original author. So it would be great if you could do this. And maybe only upload images to Commons in future. -- 16:35, 5 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Same thing about Image:Genesis.jpg. Great photo! --romanm (talk) 22:19, 25 July 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading Image:Genesis on egg.jpg and Image:Beijing sundial.jpg. You did just fine, I only added the categories for both of them. Please add also the information about the author and date - I guess this is you, so something like "picture taken by Sputnikcccp on 27th July 2005". --romanm (talk) 05:26, 29 July 2005 (UTC)

Wikiproject Years Survey

Hey, thanks for your question and your interest in making Year pages better. How 'bout taking part in this survey. It may help us answer many other questions we've been debating. Trevor macinnis

Thanks for your work on this article. If you have any interest, Resh Lakish, Hiyya bar Abba, and Simeon ben Shetach could all probably use some work. --Briangotts (talk) 22:32, 5 September 2005 (UTC)

Hiya

Thanks for the welcome, I wasn't really expecting anything :D. And you're right, we do have a lot in common! I'm a vegetarian as well :)

Hi from Fir0002

Gee I'm still blushing with your praise. Thanks a lot, it is great to be encouraged in that way. BTW, I really wouldn't be so harsh on yourself on the section in your photography! I'm obviously extremely flattered, but you're pretty good yourself. I really like your Image:Genesis.jpg, that is so good, not just the photography but the whole symbolism of it. Really great. I see you are at high school, do you mind if I ask what year level? I'm in year 10 (at Australia).

You seemed to have travelled a lot, are your parents in business or is it just for pleasure? What country do you like best?

I'd like to see more of your photos (do you have a gallery?) and hope you can find a new camera! there are some really nice 10x zoom panasonic lumix camera's

Thanks again for your comments, --Fir0002 10:23, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

Hi from P-funk

Thanks for the welcome, I'm still aclimatizing myself to wiki and i'm slowly beginning to appreciate the community. --P Funk 18:06, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Birthday

Hi

Hm, having found my way jusqu'à ici I'm completely lost with what to say :) The translations you suggested were pretty much what I had in mind, but really, saying "up to here" and talking about something you're reading from the top down... "until here" might work, though. It's just me thinking in Finnish again, jusqu'à ici is just tähän asti in disguise. I can't believe I once thought I knew English...

Oh, by the way, hello to you, too. You don't seem that boring, either. :) Aarnepolkusin 13:14, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

Italic and bold text

Hi again, You're inserting italic and bolded text in a non-standard way. We don't usually use <i>, etc in Wikipedia, except if that is the actual style one wants. Rather, as you'll see on Help:Editing, we surround text with '' to emphasise it (usually italic), with ''' to emphasise strongly (bold) and with ''''' to emphasise very strongly (bold-italic). --jnothman talk 00:38, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

Although it's been fairly inactive, I thought you might want to join this project. --jnothman talk 02:18, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

New articles

I've started a few articles I thought you might have an interest in. Right now they are largely pastes from the Jewish Encyclopedia, but I've wikified them and made some edits. I plan to do more in the future but I'd be glad for any help you choose to give:

Crazy changes by Gilgamesh

Unfortunately, User:Gilgamesh is now imposing his own views by changing the transliterated Hebrew names of articles with redirects to unreadable Hebrew names and fonts, as if his criteria are the only ones to reckon with, when there are in fact several. My computer, as I am sure many others' as well, does not pick up his type of fonts, and thus he is messing up articles such as Safed, Hadera, Holon, Afula, Arad, Israel and many others defacing them and making them unreadable on the web. He is going to DESTROY the normal usage of Wikipedia's Hebrew transliterations to satisfy his own needs without there being any consensus. Common usages are being thrown out in favor of obscure and pedantic academic usages familiar to only a handful of unkown academics. He should be called upon to stop BEFORE he rushes to do further damage without any consensus being reached. All his changes should therefore be reverted. See all his recent contributions via: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Gilgamesh I thank you for your interest.

Hebrew naming conventions

At the present time there is a serious discussion taking place, aiming at some consensus that will result in "official" Wikipedia guidelines about how Hebrew should be used and written in Wikipedia articles. Because of your past or ongoing interest in these type of articles with Hebrew words in them, your attention is called to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Hebrew) to make your views known and to add to the discussion before the "doors are shut". Please see the related discussion page at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Hebrew). Thank you! User:IZAK

You were listed on the Wikipedia:Wikipedians in high school page. As part of the Wikipedia:User categorisation project, these lists are being replaced with user categories. your delete tag added to "higher power"

According to the BIG BOOK of alcoholics anonymous my definition given is correct. If that bothers you that's a shame. No need to try to delete something for spite simply because it doesnt fit into your views and or beliefs.

Is up for Featured status. Your input would be welcome. Briangotts (Talk) (Contrib) 15:52, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Hello, Recently you deleted some links on my user page. Please refrain from further vandalization of my page....unless you can site a specific POLICY that prohibits the placing a other Wikipedia page links on my user page! Further vandalization of my user page will be considered a personal attack and will be reported to the appropriate Wikipedia officials. Braaad 15:19, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

Holiday Userbox

===>Diwali? Why is Diwali on there, when it occurs several weeks before the other holidays? I assumed that the whole point of a general holiday userbox is that the holidays listed largely coincide with one another. Where's Easter? Justin (koavf) 21:31, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

===>Thanks for the swift response I do think Diwali should be removed, simply because it's seasonally irrelevant (having already occured weeks ago), but I'm certainly not trying to dictate that it should be; the userbox is yours. It simply seemed odd to me, and that's why I mention it in the first place. So, feel free to leave it as is, but if it was my userbox, and you pointed out the above facts, I would delete it from the list. Justin (koavf) 22:57, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Hebrew Alphabet

Wow! Great job! My main suggestion is that for all the letters, references to folklore or legend go in a separate "in folklore" subheading. "Significance of" implies linguistic significance. Briangotts (Talk) (Contrib) 16:33, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Very impressive! I didn't have a chance to copyedit the whole thing, but from a first view it looks excellent. Owen× 20:27, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Aleph

Just curious- why did you remove this part? Aleph, like all Phoenician letters, was a consonant, represented in transliteration by the ’ at the beginning of the word ’āleph, but the Latin, Greek and Cyrillic equivalents have all come to represent vowel sounds. In Hebrew and probably in Phoenician, it is pronounced as a glottal stopIPA [ʔ]. Since Greek did not contain this sound, when the Greek alphabet was developed, this symbol was adapted to represent a vowel sound, alpha (Αα). -Briangotts (Talk) (Contrib) 14:47, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

Minor edits

I've just noted you, like I used to, are keeping minor edits as your default. I recommend against it: you are marking many non-minor edits as minor. Minor edits are usually very simple things like spelling, etc, and not just non-major edits. See Wikipedia:Minor edit and Help:Minor edit. jnothman talk 13:17, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
