Omniscient reader (Korean:전지적 독자 시점) is a web series, also translated as Omniscient reader’s viewpoint, is a South Korean web novel written by a Korean duo working under the pen name Singchon ( 싱숑 ) released on Munpia. The English translation can be found on Webnovel. The web novel reached its conclusion in February of 2020.

Soon after its conclusion, a webtoon adaptation was announced in February 2020 which is being produced by REDICE studios (adapted by UMI and Illustrated by sleepy-C) and is being published by Naver Webtoon. An English translation was released in August 2020 on Webtoon.

Plot

‘Three wars to survive the apocalypse’ (TWAS for short) is a long running web novel by tls123. While initially popular, it dropped to 100 readers by around chapter 50 and by the end of its run only had one reader, Dokja Kim. After 10 years of reading this series Dokja reached the end and at that moment the world changed. Monsters appeared, quest windows popped up and the entire world became akin to a game. In this world only one person recognized these strange occurrences, for Dokja realized that the story he held close to his heart had come to be. TWAS had become reality. He quickly resolved to use his knowledge of the story to create the best possible ending he could for all of humanity.

Characters

Kim Dokja

Dokja Kim is the protagonist of Omniscient Reader. Having read all of TWSA, he has resolved to use his knowledge of the story to create the best possible outcome for all of humanity. However, as things change, he faces challenges in this new world that he cannot predict. He is trusted greatly by his whole party, and they all loyally follow his lead.

Yu Junghyeok

Junghyeok Yoo is the Protagonist of tls123’s novel ‘Three ways to survive the apocalypse’. He is known as a regressor, someone who goes back in time when they die. For Junghyeok, he restarts his journey in the new changed world whenever he dies. Throughout the story he and Dokja butt heads, but they often work together for the greater good.

Yu Sangah

Sangah Yoo is a co-worker of Dokja’s who happened to be on the same train as Dokja when the world changed. She is one those saved by him on that day and she becomes a core member of Dokja’s Main Party. Prior to the apocalypse Sangah was seen as both cool and reliable in her workplace and she continues to be so in the changed world.

Lee Hyeonseong

Lee Hyunsung is a man with military background, who was part of Junghyeok’s party in the original story, but due to Dokja saving him on the initial scenario and them being in a party together at the start, he becomes fiercely loyal towards Dokja and his current party.

Lee Gilyeong

Lee Gilyeong is one of the people Dokja saves on the train when the world changed and he joins Dokja as one of his party. Despite being young Gilyeong is both capable and powerful with his gift to commune with insects.

Jung Heewon

Jung Heewon died early in all 1853 turns of TWSA, so she was not a character Dokja was aware of. However, in Dokja's run, she survives and ends up being a valuable asset and friend to the group. Her supporting constellation “Demonic Judge of Fire” makes her a powerful member of the party.

Han Suyeong

Han Suyeong is the writer who plagiarized TWSA (Though she says she didn’t), under the novel name “SSSS Grade Regressor”. Due to this she has considerable knowledge of the story of TWSA, which she was attempting to use to control the story, until Dokja ruins her plans. Suyeong tenuously works with Dokja while keeping her own agenda.

Bihyung

Bihyung is the Dokkaebi who oversees the scenarios Dokja and company face at the start of the story. Early on in Omniscient reader, Dokja uses his knowledge of the world to TWSA to make a deal with Bihyung and since then he has become a crucial ally to Dokja by means of exclusive access to items and the Dokkaebi network.

Webnovel

The webnovel written by Singchon was written from 6th January 2018 to 2nd February 2020. The series is made up of 98 episodes and 5 epilogues, in which an episode lasts multiple chapters.

Webtoon

The webtoon which started in 2020, shortly after the webnovel’s conclusion is still ongoing. As of November 2022, Omniscient Reader stands as the 3rd most popular action series on the Webtoon app and has 17.6M likes. The webtoon follows a similar format to the web novel in which there are episodes which span multiple chapters.
