(see the help page).</ref> Sahraoui was arrested during the tumultuous events of the Black Thursday riots[1] with other personalities such as trade unionist Habib Achour and Taeib Baccouche, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and General Secretary of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU).[2] Following these events, Sahraoui created an independent trade union movement in his home base of Sousse to which the Ministry of Interior under the Ben Ali government responded virulently.[3] Shorly after the Arab Spring uprisings in Tunisia, Sahraoui created the Trade Union Activities and Research Center (Centre des études et des activités ouvrières (CEAO)).
