From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm a student of the University of Bergamo, attending the master course "Planning and Management of Tourism Systems". I'm contributing to Wikipedia within my assignment for the exam of "Heritage Studies and ICT". The aim is to contribute to articles about municipalities, territories and heritage in the frame of Wikipedia:GLAM/UNIBG/Heritage studies and ICT. The contribution started in November 2020.

Description of the contribution

[edit]

My main goal was to increase the information on the pages, checking their correctness and providing reliable sources. Every change has been underlined on the talk page, where a discussion has been added.

Contribution to one article related to a town

[edit]

I modified the italian page about the municipality of Colletorto. I added a lot of information (around 2,500 words) regarding the economy, history, geography, fountains, administration and monuments. I also updated the list of mayors and changed upper and lower case letters.

In this case, I also did the translation of the page, because the content was minimal. The information has been translated from those added to the page in Italian. I added contents with references. I modified the general table of the page and added some referenced notes. For example, information regarding the inhabitants and the mayor was checked using demo.istat.it

Contribution to one article related to heritage in that territory

[edit]

I added a lot of information on the italian page Nera di Colletorto, which is a particular type of olive. It is considered an important heritage for the municipality of Colletorto. The oil produced is very famous there.

Other contributions

[edit]

I modified also other pages:

Discussion page

[edit]

In Olio di oliva's page, I opened a discussion about a topic: my idea was to add in the page some references about towns known for the production of oil, like Colletorto. An user answered me that it was quite impossible, because all the Mediterranean towns produce oil. So, I abandoned the idea (link: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discussione:Olio_di_oliva). Each discussion ended with the signature.

Wikimedia Commons

[edit]

I contributed also in Wikimedia Commons. I added 3 images regarding the municipalities of Colletorto and Termoli:

They are photos taken by me, so I didn't need any authorization.

OpenStreetMap

[edit]

Instead, in OpenStreetMap (the username is the same), I added some names of monuments, coffee shops, the area of the commmunity center and fountains in the territory of Colletorto.

Wikivoyage

[edit]

I discovered Wikivoyage by chance. It is a project whose purpose is to create an updated, reliable and free content world travel guide. It is a very good project and I also wanted to contribute. I added an accomodation, that I found on internet.

Use of sources

[edit]

In order to be kind and correct, I contribute with relative sources and I put my changes in the discussion page. The aim of sources is to emphasize and support a point and, moreover, sources help build credibility. I used sources in a effective way: summarizing and paraphrasing. So, no sentence has been copied and pasted; each intervention is the result of reworking.

Moreover, it was very important the help of the municipality of Colletorto, the priest and the inhabitants of the town. Some information has been further checked on the web.

About the assignment

[edit]

Surely, this work helped others, but above all students. It was a relevant work because in this way, cities and minor places can be known. It was a pleasure to contribute and, surely, I will continue my work because it's fun and educational. Finally, it is a way of learning to write in a neutral point of view.
