Ismail Adan Osman (Ismail Yare) was born in Hargeisa, Somaliland, 1957. He hails from the Reer Samater sub-tribe. Ismail Yare was a land surveyor (public servant) before the civil war broke out in Somalia. In the late 1980’s, Ismail was living in the U.K during the civil war. He studied Civil engineering and architecture at London Southbank University. Approximately ten years later in 1997, Ismail yare returned to Somaliland and was appointed to become Minister of Commerce, Industry, Ports and Depots. He served in the senior post under Egal. Between the years 1999-2001 he established one of the first construction companies in Somaliland (Seccaco). Whilst in self-employed, he joined a political association named Sahan led by Gaboose. And was close cronies with President Bihi. In 2001-2002, Ismail joined Udub, the leading party at the time. He helped the former President Kahin who was interim at the time to retain presidency. Following this, Ismail Yare was appointed to become Minister of Interior. In 2012, Ismail Yare returned to the frontline of politics and announced the first political association Dalsan. Whilst Dalsan did not manage to reach its goal to become a national part, he managed to assist 20+ local councillors to succeed. Following this Dalsan along with Rays joined Kulmiye. However, political promises were broken by President Bihi who was the chairman of Kulmiye Party at the time. Ismail Yare took the bold move and crossed path to Wadani. Ismail Adan was on the forefront of Wadani’s success in 2020-2021 parliamentary and local governmental elections. He played an instrumental role. Mr Ismail Adan Osman, now 64 but is still deemed by many to be a political powerhouse in Somaliland. Ismail has 15 children and many of them are professionals.
