User:Soccer5525/Adoption Classroom
Welcome!
[edit]I am currently not able to adopt new/unexperienced users on Wikipedia. All of a sudden I have had all the many people accept my adoption, so right now I just to gather myself and prepare some classes. Sorry if I'm disapointing any adoptees!
I also have added a stress level meter to this page. If you haven't guessed yet, I'm a new adopter, and my current adoptees are my very frist ones. So when I'm stressed with planning things to teach, getting in touch with everyone, etc., you'll know! If I'm really stressed, you may not want to talk to me or bother me with anything, because I will blow up! :)
You can leave a message on this page's talk page. Most users wanted to be adopted though will just post a template requesting adoption on their user page, and that is fine too.
Adoptees
[edit]PLEASE check this page frequently to stay up to date on all classroom activites. I'm not going to always tell you when to look at this page, so if you don't and fall behind, that's your loss!

Let’s Start!
[edit]Let’s start the adoption process! To begin, does anyone have any big questions? If so, we can start off by me answering them, and then taking off from there. Please reply below on a bullet. You can add more bullets if needed.
- I was wondering, I have noticed that there are some topics that have no articles of their own, but are redirected to similar topics. If you wanted to write an article for a topic that redirects for another topic, how do you do that? Lyrical Israfel (talk) 14:47, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
- So, can you tell me like some userpage codes? Like the background color, font, and etc. Also, How do you make your username signature like that?--Petslover :) (talk) 04:17, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
- I'm guessing that the wiki environment is somewhat like a webpage with the wiki being a sort of server-browser. Am I close? Any other info. about the wiki-environment may help me to understand what is happening when I press kill...err.... I mean 'Enter'. Also, I often wonder whether a change of a significant word to a text could be conceived as a minor edit? Is there a fundamental difference in the undo functions of these edits, or is the whole affair an arbitrary one?Fithsun (talk) 18:15, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
Redirecting: Lyrical, to learn more about redirecting articles, etc., please read here. Hopefully that will answer your question, and if not please let me know! I never really knew much about the whole redirecting of articles and such, so hopefully that page will help you. --♥Soccer5525♥Talk To Me! 17:56, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks so much, reading that article answered my question. :-) Lyrical Israfel (talk) 14:02, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
User Page Codes: There are many user page codes, and depending on what you want to create, you need to know a special code. This page will hopefully answer all your questions. Creating your user page is very complex, and sometimes you just need to click on edit on someones user page, and copy and paste something they have onto your page. --♥Soccer5525♥Talk To Me! 17:56, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
Huh?: Fithsun, I'm sorry but I have no idea what you're asking me. If you could speak normally, that would be great! :) And less big words would help too! --♥Soccer5525♥Talk To Me! 21:28, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
Apologies. I was just trying to understand how wikipedia worked (this isn't essential so don't get stressed with this one), and if there was a format for deciding the difference between a major edit and a minor edit; is it my choice which type of edit to use or is there a description on how to approach this somewhere? Fithsun (talk) 13:39, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Major/Minor Edits: By reading this list below, hopefully you'll be able the understand the difference between major and minor edits. There are certain things that are required to call your edits major and minor. ----♥Soccer5525♥Talk To Me! 21:22, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
When to mark an edit as minor
- Spelling corrections
- Simple formatting (e.g. capitalization, punctuation, or properly adding italics to non-English words, like folie de grandeur)
- Formatting that doesn't change the meaning of the page (e.g. adding horizontal lines, splitting one paragraph into two—where this is not contentious)
- Obvious factual errors (e.g. changing "Nixon resigned in 1874" to "Nixon resigned in 1974")
- Fixing layout errors
- Adding or correcting wiki links
- Removing vandalism and graffiti
When not to mark an edit as minor
- Adding sections to an article
- Removing sections from an article
- Adding controversial information to an article about a living person
- Adding templates to an article
- Removing templates from an article
More Questions
[edit]- How did you add an American flag on your user page? I want to add a Hong Kong flag, like where the wikipedia logo is.--Petslover :) (talk) 22:36, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Soccer, I was wondering how to properly add a citation to something in an article? I'm having trouble doing it and probably just need an easier explanation than the one in help. Thank you!! Lyrical Israfel (talk) 18:13, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
