From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dennis Willis (born January 17, 1967 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida) is an American radio and television personality, as well as screenwriter and director. He currently reviews films and provides entertainment industry commentary at KGO AM 810, in San Francisco.

Television

[edit]

In 2008, Willis completed the final season as host, producer and editor of Soundwaves, a Bay Area-based music entertainment show that left the airwaves after a record-setting 25 years (he began hosting the show at 16 years old).

Willis also produced and co-hosted two film-based shows, Reel Life (1993 TV Series) and FilmTrip (1997-98), with Steve Wagner. He is currently in pre-production on a third syndicated film-based show, that will launch in Fall 2009.

Radio

[edit]

Willis originally took his film critic act to radio to promote FilmTrip (which aired on KGO-TV and KCWB in Kansas City) [1], but the radio gig long outlasted the TV show, which lasted one season. He has had several stints as KGO Radio’s Afternoon News film critic, from 1997-99, 2001-2002, 2004, and recently from September 2005 to the present.

Film

[edit]

Willis and Steven Kirk wrote and directed Unwrapped (2006), an acclaimed indie short about exploitation in the Internet age; and have collaborated on several screenplays they plan to direct. Their 2006 short documentary The Life and Legacy of George Reeves was released on DVD through VCI Entertainment.

They own and operate Capricorn Entertainment and have collaborated for over 20 years.

Fundraising

[edit]

Since 1989, Willis and Steven Kirk have produced and hosted the annual Soundwaves Christmas Party, a food, clothing and toy drive to benefit local Bay Area neighborhoods and noteworthy national non-profit organizations.
