Edgar Allan Morales (born November 13, 1996), known under the psuedonym SmartBuddy, is a Filipino writer from Bataan. He is currently finishing his highschool in Blessed Regina Protmann Catholic School in Mariveles, Bataan, a catholic school founded by the St. Catherine Sisters. He is also a fan of Taylor Swift and also a certified VIP.
Early Life
[edit]Born on a starry night of November 13, 1996, Morales is a the second son of Engr. Edgardo S. Morales, a Civil Engineer that is currently working on Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Ma. Theresa A. Morales, an entrepreneur. He is the grandson of the late Francisco Adame, a former head engineer of Colegio de San Juan de Letran branch in Bataan, and his widow, Teresita Adame, a dressmaker. He also has an older brother, Chechen A. Morales (1995), a ChemEng student of University of the Philippines, and two younger sisters, named Che-ann Sofia (2001) and Jasmine Hannah (2003).
Biography
[edit]Early Childhood
[edit]At early age, Morales has shown sign of hearing impairment but was failed to visit the doctor until he was 6 years old because of financial problems. The doctor confirmed his hearing loss problem he is subjected to a hearing test. The result showed that both of his ears have problems and advised to use hearing aid. This advice, however, was not conducted until he was 11 years old.
However, despite his condition, Morales never has a difficulty in learning. In fact, he finished his preparatory course with flying colors and receive a couple of special award (Best in Filipino and Best in Math) during the graduation.
2002-2008: Elementary Years
[edit]Month after the graduation, Morales developed Asthma. Because of this, he was forced to stop playing outside, especially during summer, to prevent the symptoms of asthma. He also takes medication which has a side effect of gaining weight drastically. Because of this, he gained 7 kilos after the summer vacation.
He finished his first year in elementary in St. Cecilla's Academy. On the proceeding years, he transferred to another house, where he is currently residing, as well as to another school, the Cabcaben Elementary School, where he studied until he was in Grade 5. The following year, he transferred to another school, the Blessed Regina Protmann Catholic School, where he is currently studying.
His academic excellence never fades away. He finished Grade 1 as the rank 7 of the class, rank 3 when he was in Grade 2, Rank 6 when he was in Grade 3, Rank 4 when he was in Grade 4 and Rank 5 on the proceeding year. However, when he was in his last year of elementary, his condition worsen, thus, forcing him to wear hearing aid. He graduated as the 8th honor of their class.
2009-Present: Highschool Life
[edit]He started his high school life on the same school where he graduated. He was under the section of Pedro Arrupe, thee highest section of their batch, until he was in Third Year.
During his first year, he was failed to prove his academic excellence because of too much excessive use of computer. Because of this, he often got a failing score on his quizzes and misses some assignment. However, he realized his mistake after he had fall down to Rank 13 of the class during the third quarter of the class. Because of this, he burned the midnight oil on the remaining quarter in order to retrieve his grade. Because of this, he was able to go back to the Top Ten on the last quarter, at Rank 6. At the end, he ranked 10th on the overall ranking of their batch.
On the succeeding year, he proved his excellence without any doubt. He finished it successfully, ranking 6th of their batch. However, when he was in Third Year, he suffered from Otitis Media Because of this, his condition worsen and failed to compete better. Instead, he fall down to Rank 19 on the over-all ranking of the first quarter. He was able to retrieve his grade after he had recovered, ranking 7, 6 and 9 on the remaining quarter, respectively. However, this improvement doesn't helped him to enter the final over-all ranking. For the first time, he failed to enter the Top Ten, ranking at 12.
On the last chapter of his high school life, his section's name was changed to St. Francis of Assisi but he is still on the highest ranking. On this year, he promised that he will do better that he eve attended tutorials during weekend, in order to cope up with the lessons he missed. This endeavor resulted good for he ranked 5th on the first quarter. He also has guts to attend University of the Philippines, just like his brother. Currently, he is waiting for the result of UPCAT.
Personal Life
[edit]Career as a writer
[edit]Bearing the name of a famous writer, he grow up devoted to write. To him, "writing is about expressing your little voice and reaching the people that you cannot reach no matter how much you extend your arms".
At early age as 9, he already wrote some poems, mostly contains only 2 verse. His subject is mostly about friends and animals. Moreover, when he was in Grade 5, he wrote a poem that has 6 verse. It was entitled "Ano ngayon?" ("So what?"), a poem that was inspired by a teacher who underestimated him because of his hearing impairment. He also wrote sonnets and even includes them on their school organ, where he works as the Literary Editor.
Also, at the same age, he wrote his first one-shot fiction, which he called "On the Day of Christmas", a Christmas story that was inspired by their traditional way of celebrating of Christmas. Aside from that, he also wrote one-shot fictions that was based on an event he have encountered. The most notable one is "Menudo (Alaala ni Lolo)" ("Menudo (Memoirs of my Grandfather"), a story that was created as he ate Menudo during the burial of his beloved grandfather.
When he was 11, he started writing novels. He even submitted two of them, namely "The Reunion of the Two Separated Hearts" and "The Grand Opening of Stephanie's Heart", to a publishing companies. This books, however, failed to pass the publisher's criteria.
He also started posting stories online. At the same age, he posted a 50-chapter story, called "My Best Friend (a love story)", which was finished when he was already in First Year Highschool. It gained moderate success. He is actually planning to post a sophomore series, whom he called "Teardrops on my Guitar", on the same website but decided not to continue in order to focus in school. He still posting stories during his sophomore and junior years on Facebook. This includes the original version of "Sparks Fly" and "Leonne's Diary".
However, during his summer vacation on 2012, he decided to post stories on Wattpad, in order to "kill the boredom", as he says. He posted the re-written version of "Sparks Fly", a story that he had written when he was in second year, where he expanded the story from the original concept. With the addition to that, he also posted "Red Eyes", a vampire fiction whom he write when he was in Grade 6, and, the most recently, Come Here, Rude Boy, a fanfiction of Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner chemistry.
Aside from fictions, he also writes essay and news article. He even competes two essay writing contest on their school, grabbing the first and third place, respectively. He is also an editor of their newspaper.
Influence
[edit]Morales is a "die-hard" fan of Taylor Swift and Big Bang. He first knows Taylor after he had heard her song, "Teardrops on My Guitar". Since then, he become a fan of her. Whilst, he first heard Big Bang from a "K-Pop lover" classmate. At first, he wasn't interested. Not until he heard their song Monster.
Aside from those two, he is also a fan of Jesse McCartney, Marie Digby, Selena Gomez and the Scene, Demi Lovato, Hunter Hayes and many more.
In his career as a writer, he cited Edgar Allan Poe as the main reason why he decided to write stories. He believes that it is destined for him to write that is why he was named "Edgar Allan".
Fantasy
[edit]Morales have been dreaming about releasing his own album when he, himself, knows that he cannot sing. But nobody can't stop him for he believe that "it is free to dream". He even create his own track list which includes 8 original composition and 2 covers from his favorite artists.

The "album" was called "Stuck in the Moment". According to him, he chose that title for "the album's element are mostly consist of some scenes that left you frozen like a statue and was hard to get over it. There are songs that makes you think about moving on, loving fearlessly despite the consequences, having your heart broken by a girl who treat you like a monster and trying to apologize to your girlfriend, who was mad by a certain situation. There's also a song called "Under the Rain", which is absolutely my [his] favorite"
