Hamlet Article Evaluation

[edit]

I am evaluating the Hamlet page. I took a look first at the information about adaptations and I think the Gamlet section should be expanded. As stated, it is considered by many to be the definitive adaptation (including by other adapters) so it maybe deserves to have more written about. I also think the page should use a Kenneth Branagh or Gamlet photo as those two seem to be most well-known or definitive. Benedict Cumberbatch's photo was used and though he is well-known, I don't think his performance is well-known (at least yet). I also think the main first section should specify when the play is intended to take place as it clarifies location and should add time to its mention of the setting. There is a section devoted to Sources, explaining potential influences on Shakespeare's work but I think having specified time in the beginning could help as well. For example, with Richard III, knowing the time it takes place is important so I think Hamlet's is too. The psychoanalytic criticism of Hamlet is quite large and I think the philosophical and feminist critiques are paled in comparison. If there is more information out there about the critiques through those lenses, they could be valuable.

Cymbeline Article Evaluation

[edit]

Because the Hamlet page felt well-done, I went and took a look at the Cymbeline page as well. This is also helpful for me because it is the article we will be editing. After a quick glance, I think the "Sources" section should be expanded as it is just barely a paragraph. I think Cymbeline deserves a criticism and analysis section like Hamlet has because I found the relations the play has in metaphors to Britain (what was discussed in class today) to be interesting and valuable and I think it could be helpful to include.
