Phillip Zachary Triantafillo(born March 7th, 1986 in Munster, IN) is a professional boxer in the heavyweight division born in the United States.
Backround
[edit]Born into a working class family in Chicago's Hegewisch neighborhood. His father Phillip S. Triantafillo was a union Iron worker of Greek descent, and Mother Paula A. Triantafillo (nee Polewski) a Registered Nurse. A family of athletes, His younger brother Alex Triantafillo played division 2 Baseball for West liberty university. His uncle Stephen Polewski played Major league baseball for the Pittsburgh pirates.
Early years
[edit]Growing up on Chicago's south east side Triantafillo had gotten into countless fights and scuffles being expelled from several schools. Running the streets of Chicago's Hegewisch neighborhood Triantafillo had found plenty of mischief and gotten into much trouble as a youth with arrests ranging from selling marijuana to aggravated battery in which Triantafillo had served 7 months in cook county jail and received 2 years probation. He has since relocated and changed his ways. Phillip now volunteers at various youth centers working with children and warning them of the dangers of drugs and gangs. "Boxing saved my life", said Triantafillo. "If it wasn't for boxing I would probably be in jail or on drugs like most of the people from my neighborhood."
Amateur Background
[edit]Triantafillo began boxing at the age of 8. Training at the legendary windy city gym under the tutelage of world renown boxing trainer Sam Colonna he had a stellar amateur career amassing a record of 56W-16L. In 2002 Triantafillo had won the national silver gloves and national junior Olympic's in the super heavyweight division. He had beaten several notable fighters as an amateur including Luciano "El Gallo Bravo" Perez, Carlos "El Tiburon" Torres and Shawn Hawk. In 2008 Phill had 2 amateur mixed martial arts bouts under the name Phill Fillo. His record was 1-1.
Professional Career
[edit]Phillip Triantafillo received a professional boxing license in the state of Indiana on May 5th 2011. He is set to make a debut in June in Hammond Indiana. Phill is both managed and trained by Sam Colonna. His sponsor's are Best Price wireless, Mugs bunny, and Chicago Pita Kitchen.
Personal Life
[edit]Triantafillo has never married and has no children. He lives in Chesterton Indiana. In addition to english Phill also speaks Greek and Spanish. Phill has followed in his father and uncles footsteps and is a union Ironworker out of local 1 Chicago. In his free time he enjoys reading, shooting pool and playing chess.
