National Institute of Technology, Tokyo College (Japanese: 東京高等専門学校) is a national college of technology in Hachioji, Tokyo, Japan. It was founded in 1965. The college consists of five departments that offer education leading up to an associate's degree and three advancement courses (専攻科) for candidates wishing to obtain a bachelor's degree.
History
[edit]The college was founded in 1965 as 4th Campus of the National Institute of Technology with enrolment capacity of 120 students and three departments: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical engineering, and Industrial Chemistry. The opening ceremony was conducted on 26 April, and this day is celebrated as the college's foundation day.
In 1 April 1970, the Department of Electronic Engineering was opened.
In 1 April 1988, the Department of Computer Science was opened.
Academics

Additionally advancement courses for bachelor's degree are offered in Mechanical and Computer Systems Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Chemical Science and Engineering.
First-year students are not attached to a department and receive education from all departments. At the end of their first year, choose their department and have an opportunity to transfer at the end of their second year. Department allocation is based on demand and academic performance.
In addition to specialized studies, the college mandates general education classes for students in first three years, corresponding to high school curricullum, and offers electives for students in last two year groups, corresponding to liberal arts electives found in regular universities.

[edit]The name of the college's cultural festival is Kunugida Festival (くぬぎだ祭), after the surrounding town. The festival hosts artistic and cultural activities of individual classes and societies, as well as presentations from departments and partner companies for the local community.
