Soke Grandmaster Keith Kugel

Soke (founder) Grandmaster Keith Kugel is a prominent martial artist based in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. He has been actively involved in martial arts training and teaching since the 1980’s. A devout Christian, Grandmaster Kugel gives credit to God for his accomplishments. Soke Kugel continues his martial arts research whenever possible. Currently he studies (Serrada) Escrima with Grandmaster Wade Williams and Professor Keenan Williams of Tracy, California. Training and Certification______________________________________________________ Soke Grandmaster Keith Kugel began training in Shaolin Kempo Karate in 1979 and received the rank of 3rd Dan under Grandmaster Fred Villari. He was promoted to 4th Dan, and then 5th Dan in Shaolin Kempo Karate under Shihan Erick Kugel. He concurrently studied Kuntao Ju Jitsu under Grandmaster Richard Petronelli and was promoted to 1st Dan. Soke Grandmaster Kugel was later promoted to the rank 6th Dan and awarded the title of Professor by Grandmaster Petronelli. He was awarded the rank of 8th Dan by Grandmaster Vasquez. He is currently ranked a 9th Dan by Grandmaster Lawrence Day. This was the last rank certified prior to Grandmaster Day’s death. Kemjukido is a hybrid American martial art designed for no holds barred street self- defense. It combines knowledge of functional anatomy and physiology with martial arts techniques designed to disrupt the breathing and circulation of the attacker. Efficiency in movement and technique is highly emphasized. Kemjukido students are taught to end fights quickly; so that multiple attackers can’t enter the fray. Practitioners of Kemjukido strive to create the illusion that they are too far away or not ready to attack through the use of skillful footwork. The deceptive nature of the various methods of attack makes them very difficult to defend against. Kemjukido includes specialized striking, kicking and blocking techniques, as well as joint locking, throwing and ground techniques.
