The idea of "what life is" may keep on changing depending upon the capabilitis of a thinker, but the importance of this idea will remain the same. And this idea sets our collective mission as "seeking and understanding truths" to the extent our capabilities allow (what philosophers try). That ("seeking and understanding truths") is the essence of "experience" and experience is the basic instinct of why we live. We can suppress the essence of "experience" and thereby essence of "life" for sometime, but we can not kill the process.
