Preface
This book has documented the proceedings of the three day International Academic Conference exploring the means to realize the political aspirations of the Tamils of Sri Lanka on 15, 16 and 17 May 2013 and the promulgation of the Tamil Eelam Freedom Charter on 18 May 2013 at the legendary city of Lancaster (Pennsylvania USA) that marks the 4th anniversary of the Mullivaikkal Massacre.
This book contains the legal basis of the Freedom Charter, Questionnaire for People’s input, research papers on a variety of topics related to Conference theme, 21 Articles of Freedom, song heralding the promulgation of Tamil Eelam Freedom Charter and the like.
The purpose of this book has been to give an insight into the Tamil National Question in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka got independence from Britain in 1948 and the Tamil Question has been continuing for more than six decades without any political solution. The suffering of Tamils remains huge and has led to Genocide on Eelam Tamils in May 2009.
At this critical political environment, with many challenges ahead of Tamils, this book would remind Tamils worldwide of their responsibilities imposed on them, until the ultimate goal of independent and sovereign State of Tamil Eelam is achieved – to live freely, peacefully and securely.
Tamil groups from around the world, coordinated by the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE), initiated the process of drafting the Freedom Charter, through extensive consultation from Tamils worldwide.
We thank the academics, human rights activists, legal luminaries and professionals who submitted their research papers on a variety of themes and present at the historic event worldwide.
