Adoption

[edit]

Hey Skamecrazy123! I see you are looking to be adopted. Would you like me to adopt you? Eagles 24/7 (C) 20:01, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

  • If you could spare the time, I would certainly appreciate it alot Skamecrazy123 (talk) 20:06, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
I can always make time to help a new user like yourself! My first question to you: Where do you think you will want to help out on Wikipedia? Eagles 24/7 (C) 20:14, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Anything computer based (PC's Macs, that sort of thing), music (ska/reggae and punk rock). My parents have always said i'm full of really random information, so I'd be willing to help out wherevers needed, but those 2 things in the main. Is that too vague? Skamecrazy123 (talk) 20:22, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
My areas are vague too, I mainly edit NFL pages, and I help out wherever areas need help. Okay, so as a new user, it would be best for you to learn how to do normal Wikipedia things, such as undoing (or reverting) vandalism on pages. The first task you will need to complete is that you need to go to this page (which is a fake page in my userspace). Now go to the "history" tab at the top of the page. Look for the top edit, which I summarized as "vandalizing" in the edit summary. Click "Undo" for this edit, which will delete the vandalism. Click "Save page" like you would do for a normal edit. Then come back here for a prize if you did it correctly. Eagles 24/7 (C) 20:35, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
    Ok, I think I undid that correctly Skamecrazy123 (talk) 20:41, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Award of First Success
I, Eagles247, hereby award Skamecrazy123 this Award of First Success for successfully completing their first task. Congrats! Eagles 24/7 (C) 20:42, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Here on Wikipedia, we reward users who work hard, fight vandalism, and are overall nice editors. These awards are called Barnstars, and you can see my collection here. Eagles 24/7 (C) 20:44, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Alright, I'm going to be inactive for a couple hours. My next task for you is to edit some Wikipedia articles! I'll check up on you when I get back and if you need immediate assitance, check this out. Happy editing! Eagles 24/7 (C) 20:50, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Okie doke :) Thankyou very much for your help thusfar Skamecrazy123 (talk) 20:53, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
No problem, and don't be afraid to drop me a line on my talk page if something comes up. Again, welcome! Eagles 24/7 (C) 20:54, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

Citations

[edit]

The only ways to know if Wikipedia will accept your references (citations) are:

  1. An editor removes the reference
  2. The website is "blacklisted" by Wikipedia, but the edit would not go through if the website was "blacklisted".

So don't worry about if the citations are good enough, because they probably are. Eagles 24/7 (C) 00:56, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Ah ok, I just wasnt sure if an experianced editor had to actually come along and validate them first. Thanks for clearing that up. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 13:59, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Well if that were the case, it would take years to validate every single article on Wikipedia! :) Eagles 24/7 (C) 21:04, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Of course. Silly of me not to have realized that xD --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 18:16, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

New task

[edit]

Are you ready for a new task? Eagles 24/7 (C) 18:13, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

By all means, fire away. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 03:21, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
Alright so I'm going to teach you how to create pages. We'll start the article in your userspace so the article doesn't get deleted. Pick a topic (any topic) to make an article for, then create a page with the title, User:Shamecrazy123/Title, and replace Title with the name of your article. This is what we call a subpage, which you can read about here if you like. Just tell me what it will be called so I can help you further. Eagles 24/7 (C) 03:27, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
Okie doke then. I'll start that asap. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 03:31, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Re

[edit]

Yea, you can inform me of your progress, that would be fine. I think you will have no problem of getting your article to mainspace without it being deleted, because there are a bunch of articles on Wikipedia that mention Eyetech. Merry Christmas to you too! Eagles 24/7 (C) 04:28, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Its just finding the sources to back up what ive found so far. I found a small history page for the company, but it throws up more bits and pieces that I need to find, and its a bit vague in places. Still, that may be a place to begin at least. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 04:36, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Yea, and you can search Wikipedia to find additional sources as well. I looked at your page just now and saw that you referenced two places with the exact same source. I made it so that it is one source and links to both paragraphs. (See here if you are confused about what I mean, I just don't know how to word it better). You can name references by adding <ref name="NAME"> in place of the normal <ref> at the front of the citation. Then, when citing the second paragraph, you can just put <ref name="NAME"/> and it will group the two together. Eagles 24/7 (C) 05:20, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Also see what I did here. Eagles 24/7 (C) 05:25, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
heh, I was just changing that, but thankyou for doing it for me. And that is a really helpful little tip there. I never knew you could organise citations that way, and I certianly would not have asked about it. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 05:28, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Yep, no one told me and I did that for a couple months there, so I'm glad I caught you doing it so early in your editing career. :D Eagles 24/7 (C) 05:38, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I can imagine people would have gotten slightly hacked off if they would have had to have read through a long list of the same references xD --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 05:42, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Haha, yep. Eagles 24/7 (C) 05:57, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

See this edit. If the entire paragraph is from the one source, you only need to put one ref tag at the end of the paragraph, not three randomly in the middle of the paragraph. Eagles 24/7 (C) 06:51, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
