Attack on Titan is an upcoming Japanese post-apocalyptic dark fantasy film based on the Kodansha manga of the same name by Hajime Isayama. The film is distributed by Toho, which also produced the film with Kodansha, Nikkatsu and Licri. It is intended to be the first installment in the Attack on Titan film series. Shinji Higuchi is set to direct the film scripted by Yusuke Watanabe and Tomohiro Machiyama. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Haruma Miura, Kiko Mizuhara, Kanata Hongo, Satomi Ishihara, Nanami Sakuraba, Takihiko Miura, Hiroki Hasegawa, Ayame Misaki, Pierre Taki, Jin Kunimura, Shu Watanabe, Satoru Matsuo and Rina Takeda.
The concept of a film adaptation of Atack on Titan was first developed in 2011. Tetsuya Nakashima was originally assigned to direct the film for a tentative 2013 release. However, after Nakashima left due to creative differences in 2012, Higuchi was approached and the film's release was scheduled to 2015. Filming began in April 2014 and was shot primarily on Hashima Island.

Production
[edit]Development and pre-production
[edit]Development of an Attack on Titan film began as early as September 2011 when a casting call posted by the city of Itako revealed the details of the film. Tetsuya Nakashima was signed on to be director.[1] One month later, Kodansha announced that the Attack on Titan film was in pre-production.[1] However, on December 13, 2012, Toho announced that Nakashima was leaving the project due to creative differences, and moved the release date to Fall 2014.[2]
In April 2014, Haruma Miura was cast as Eren Yeager.[3]
Filming
