RCAF 924 Teachers Squadron comprised the educational workers - teachers and school administrators - of the school system serving the children of Canadian military personnel. It was established so that military personnel with families and children did not have to send their children off-base to attend classes. In 1989, the Canadian government announced military funding cuts which would see the squadron disbanded at the end of the 1989-90 school year. This meant that children of military personnel had to attend school off-base and all the squadron members were looking for work with municipal boards. The on-base schools were closed and demolished or re-purposed.
