Agbaja section of Mbaise is composed of Nguru (with Nguru nwe Nkwo, Nguru nwe Eke and Nguru nwe Afo Ajala communities), Okwuato (with Ibeku, Lagwa and Umuhu communities) and Enyiogugu. Border communities include Ezinihitte to the North, Owerri to the South, Ahiazu Mbaise to the West and Oke Ovuru to the East. The capital of Aboh Mbaise Local Government in which Agbaja is situate is Aboh which is at the edge of Nguru nwe Eke, overlapping into Oboama Ezinihitte.
Popular or major markets in Agbaja include Nkwo ogwu, Eke Nguru and Afor Ajala in Nguru; Afor Ibeku, Afor Umuhu and Nkwo Lagwa in Okwuato and Afor Enyiogwugwu in Enyiogugu.
Agbaja is predominantly a Catholic community, one of the earliest churches being the Catholic Church at Nguru Center in Nguru nwe Nkwo, along the Owerri-Umuahia Road. A popular missionary priest at Nguru Center was Fr Stigler popularly known as 'Father-onye-ahuonu' or the bearded priest. Notable Agbaja priests and religious include Rev. Frs Onyeachu, Peter Ben--, Adrian Osuagwu, Ethel Ukpabi, Ben Nwachukwu-Udaku, Godson Okoro, Sylvester Ajunwa, Onyemma, Ibe,etc.
Educational institutions in Agbaja include Mbaise Secondary School, Aboh; Enyiogugu High School; Girls Secondary School, Ogbor Nguru; Okwuato Secondary School; Lagwa Community Secondary School (formerly Lagwa Boys); Nguru Secondary Commercial School; Mater Ecclesiae Minor Seminary, Afor Ajala and numerous elementary and private commercial schools. The Imo State Government also recently approved the permanent site of Imo State University for Mbaise.
Prominent Igbo educationists from Agbaja Mbaise include the Late Sir J.E. Nworgu, J.P.(one of the early Mbaise college graduates, first African Principal of Mbaise Secondary School and former Principal of the renowned Government College Umuahia); Prof. Fabian Osuji (former Education Minister); Prof. A.J. Njoku; Prof. C.C. Nwachukwu of University of PortHarcourt; Dr Casmir Anyanwu (husband to Senator Chris Anyanwu); Dr Victor Chinasa Ukpabi; Dr Christian Chibundu Anyanwu.
