Kohoutek is an experimental and psychedelic, instrumental band originally from Washington, D.C., now based out of Philadelphia, PA. The band was formed in 2001 and was originally comprised of Scott Verrastro (percussion), Craig Garrett (bass), and Luke Wyatt (guitar). Since their founding, the band has had numerous incarnations with Verrastro as the sole unchanging fixture. As of 2022 the band has released 13 albums and their sound has been described as "cosmic and otherwordly while also rooted in raw, gritty 70s psych-rock."[1]
History
[edit]Kohoutek was formed in 2001 when Scott Verrastro (percussion), Craig Garrett (bass), and Luke Wyatt (guitar) began playing together in Washington, D.C. [2] In 2003, the band began playing shows and was soon joined by Scott Allison (electronics). Wyatt left the band in 2004 and was replaced by Jeff Barsky. Several guitarists have played as part of various incantations of Kohoutek including, Jim Ayre, Vic Salazar, Chris Grier and John Stanton. The band has also featured electronics as part of its music since Allison joined the band with Damian Languell and John Simler either playing alongside Allison or individually as the main conductor of the electronic sounds.
In 2008, Verrastro relocated to Philadelphia and the band continued to perform...
