Duo (Japanese: デュオ) was a Japanese manga magazine. It was published by Asahi Sonorama between 1981 and 1985 as the direct successor to the magazine Manga Shōnen (マンガ少年). In total, 25 issues were published.
History
[edit]The magazine was initially called Gekkan Manga Duo (月刊マンガデュオ, "Monthly Manga Duo") and was published monthly, starting with the September 1981 issue. Initially, the magazine explicitly broke the gender division of manga magazines and published manga that had both girls (shōjo manga) and boys (shōnen manga) as a demographic Its cover carried the subtitle "The Comic Monthly For Boys And Girls" in English.
From the May 1982 issue on, the concept was changed. It was renamed Duo, published bimonthly and had girls only as a demographic, now with the title "For Girls" in English on the cover.
Many renowned artists such as Daijiro Morohoshi, Michi Tarasawa and Yumiko Ōshima published short stories in the magazine.
