TAHAN THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE

Tahan Theological College was founded by the Presbyterian Church of Myanmar (PCM) and inaugurated the College on 16 May, 1978. As the PCM is growing in size and ministry, the need for having its own Theological School have been felt for a long time. The Synod of The Presbyterian Church of Myanmar resolved to start a Theological School in 1975 and that was reaffirmed in 1977. For this purpose, the Church bought a private house with the help support of United Presbyterian Church in USA (PCUSA) and Reformed Churches in Europe at the heart of Tahan in 1977. The Church started a Theological School (Tahan Theological School) on June 6, 1978. At first Diploma of Graduate in Theology was offered to two students in 1980.

In 1982 the School received full membership from the Association for Theological Education in South East Asia (ATESEA). To receive and evaluate of the activities of the School, the first visit of Accreditation commission Team from the ATESEA was happened in 1984. The team recommended that the School offers the Licentiate in Theology by raising admission requirement the 8th Standard to 9th or otherwise lengthen the study period to five years.

In 1986 the name Tahan Theological School was changed to Tahan Theological Seminary. After one year when the Seminary began to open Bachelor of Theology programme in 1987 by admitting students who matriculated from State High School, and the name was changed again to Tahan Theological College.

In 1991, the Accreditation Commision recommended the G.Th programme be changed L.Th and the entrance requirement be raised to 9th Standard. On these conditions, the Accreditation Commission agree to accredit the L.Th program. The Accreditation Commission team visited Myanmar in 1995 and the Team agree to continue to accredit the L.Th. program and to accredit the B.Th. program. The College began to offer Master of Divinity Program in 2006 and received accreditation of the M.Div. program from the ATESEA in 2011.
