SLEUBC European union and Sri Lanka celebrated 20 years of cooperation though EU relations with Sri Lanka originated centuries ago along the lines of migration, trade, tourism, sports, legal, Administrative traditions, architecture and language, through the aspects of politics, economics, social and cultural relations, although official relations came into existence in the year 1975 when the European commission initiated a commercial cooperation agreement with the Sri Lankan government. Today allegiance between the EU and Sri Lanka encloses a comprehensive list of mainstream issues inclusive of trade, human rights, fisheries, development cooperation and humanitarian aid. As of today EU is acknowledged to be Sri Lankas’ largest trading partner in terms of overall trade being the fourth largest import partner which represents 8%of total imports and the largest export partners which represents 32% of total exports. OVERVIEW Sri Lanka European Union Business Council(SLEUBC) was initiated in the year 2015 by a formal request of the Minister of Finance Honourable Ravi Karunanayake (no.FM/KADS/E/0398/15) under the guidance of the Prime Minister Honourable Ranil Wikramasinghe in order to create a strong alliance between the Sri Lankan business communities and European Union with the intention of facilitating and intensifying bilateral Trade and Investments and enhancing the business sector of the country in general by conciliating relations between European Union and Sri Lanka, and thus by the cooperation between the parties to achieve mutual benefits and common goals. SLEUBC takes pride in protecting both parties’ intensions, objectives and interests and providing guidance for the business transactions and a safer platform by procuring accurate data and information to advance sustainable business policies thus actively engaging and aiding in the modus operandi of approvals and logistics.

MISSION “Enhance export and import in sectorial diversification, improving investment productivity and competitiveness by creating platforms for business opportunities and arrangements which will help European Union countries and Sri Lanka to tie their economy more firmly within global trade links.”

OBJECTIVES • To analyse, promote, conduct, facilitate and provide guidance for trade, investments, imports and exports between European Union countries and Sri Lanka. • To substantiate all aspects of business activities between EU countries and Sri Lanka. • To conduct social welfare activities, facilitate and promote loans, monitory and non-monitory aids and confer benefit for the society. • To promote culture, music and art among the nations. • To create additional networks and forums which can lead to new growth opportunities. • To empower access to participate and benefit from bilateral trade negotiations and thereby strengthen relations with the world economy. • To strengthen diplomatic relations which will mutually benefit citizens of each negotiating country. • To diversify and intensify trade, foreign direct investments and business relations. • To substantiate Sri Lanka’s efforts in extending better policies and strategies in environmental protection and sustainable management of natural resources. • To assist improving Human Rights, living conditions of the poor and provide humanitarian aid as necessary.
