Shaun,
Just to let you know, I re-entered the sentences that you deleted about Phil Gordon (Public Safety). You labeled my contribution as "partisan babble...". I do NOT have a horse in the upcoming mayoral race as I do not even live in Arizona, much less Phoenix. I am a frequent flyer that was traveling through Phoenix when this story became news. I was appalled at the way Mayor Phil Gordon handled himself in the TV interview that I cited in the Wikipedia aritcle. It is apparent to me that Phil only pays lip service to "Public Safety being his top priority". To me, his arrogance in this interview was unmistakeable. We're not just talking about the unfortunate citizens of Phoenix here; we are talking about the security of the entire aviation system when a mayor totally blows off important questions about whether or not people are allowed to go from an unsecure area to a supposedly sterile secure area in one of our nation's busy airports without their bags being screened. Does he think that 9/11 was a fluke? Our public officials need to worry more about plugging gaping holes in security and less on getting re-elected. All Phil needed to say in the interview was something like: "Thank you for bringing this serious issue to my attention. I assure you that we will immediately plug this hole in the security of Sky Harbor, and will investigate why this was allowed to happen.
For you to label this contribution as "partisan babble...", indicates to me that must be one of Mayor Gordons' crew. This IS a very important issue! If your mayor is so insensitive to important issues as this, he should NOT be entrusted with the responsibility of being mayor of a great city like Phoenix. If I were a citizen of Phoenix, I assure you that I would hope that there were other choices in the mayoral election. Are there? I pray that there is, and I hope for Phoenix' sake, and the safety of all air travelers, Phil is not re-elected.
