Summary of plans for article page
As part of an assignment being undertaken for Health Informatics C, LaTrobe University, I will be updating the article on Health Informatics Service Architecture (HISA).
At this stage, the plan is to update the article with information on the following:
- Development of the standard
- How was it developed
- Who was involved in the development
- Why was it developed, how was the need for the standard identified.
- The intent of the standard
- How the standard works
- The issues the standard addresses
- Any aspects of the integration and interoperability of electronic health records that the standard does not address.
- The impact of the standard
- The impact that the standard is currently having
- The potential impact that the standard may have into the future.
This is just a brief (and broad) summary of what I think the article will contain.

The CEN Standard Architecture for Healthcare Information Systems (ENV 12967), Health Informatics Service Architecture or HISA is a standard aimed at enabling the development modular open systems to support healthcare. The HISA standard builds on the work of RICHE, NUCLEUS, EDITH and HANSA in this field.
The CEN HISA standard was adopted by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 2009, with the stated aim of ISO 12967 being to provide guidance on:
- the description, planning and development of new electronic health systems; and
- the integration of existing electronic health systems, both intra- and inter-organisationaly, through architecture that integrates common data and business logic into middleware, which is then made available throughout whole information systems[1] .
