Oranjemund
Oranjemund is a small town situated it the south-western part of Namibia. Next to it lies the Orange River, marking the border between Namibia and South Africa.
Oranjemund is a paradise in the desert, well known for its mining of diamonds. For the past 12 years that I have lived there I can say that it has always been a peaceful place, with warm-hearted and friendly people. Unauthorised persons are not allowed in Oranjemund, thus ensuring tight security, hence forth maintaining the town’s safety. There is a variety of wildlife including flamingos and the gemsboks (Oryx).
Oranjemund is a vast forbidden zone forming part of Namibia’s spergebiet. It is surrounded by dunes on the one side and a beautiful rough see on the other, were it merges with the river. The beach is a well know relaxation spot especially in December, the time around charismas.
Seeing that it is such a small town it would only take you approximately 45 minutes to walk from one side of town to the other diameter-wise. Oranjemund has one kindergarten and a private school which is slowly but surely starting to cater for high school grades to, currently having till grade 9.You will fine a museum with beautiful ancient historical belongings of the town, a recreation hall, a gym, a public pool and a library. It has a cinema and upon arrival you will fine the horse ridding stables inn. Oranjemund too has an airport that has services operated by Air Namibia. [1]
