David Ginger (born April 25, 1962) is the current Executive Director of Exploration and Subsurface at the E&P company Delonex Energy. Ginger has been in the oil, gas and energy industry for nearly 30 years. Prior to working at Delonex Energy, he has worked at British Petroleum and Lasmo served as a Exploration Co-ordinator in Indonesia, Kazakhstan and London; a Regional Exploration Manager an Exploration Manager; an Exploration & Outside Operated Production Manager for Amerda Hess; and from 2006 till 2012, has been Head of Exploration, NELP & Non-Operated Licences, Director of Exploration & New Ventures, and Director of Subsurface & New Ventures at Cairn India.

Career

From September 1983 – August 1989, Ginger worked for British Petroleum. At British Petroleum, Ginger first worked as a Rig Geologist in Aberdeen from 1983 to 1984; as a Review Geologist in Cairo from 1984 to 1987; and an Appriasal Geologist in West Africa and London from 1987 to 1989.

Later that same year, in 1989, Ginger moved to Lasmo Plc. From 1989 to 1991, Ginger worked as a Senior Geologist in London and from 1991 to 1995 worked as a Team Leader and Staff Geologist in Jakarta.

From 1995 to 1997, Ginger also worked as an Exploration Co-ordinator for Amerda Hess in Indonesia and Kazakhstan. Here, he took up the responsibility for setting up an asset portfolio and successful strategy in Indonesia; securing Indonesian field acquisition; and making 5 major oil and gas discoveries in exploration acreage in Jabung, Lematang, Pangkakh and Jambi Merang PSC’s. He also worked with production and exploration with new ventures in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and SE Asia.

August of 1997, still with Amerda Hess, Ginger became the Regional Exploration Manager in Far East London. Here, he took leadership of London-based Southeast Asian exploration and development activity. Here he worked with new ventures, and assessed potential field and corporate acquisitions with companies including Petronas, Gulf Canada, Triton, S. E. Asian, Bongkot, Sirikit, Benchamas, Lundin Malaysia, West Java PSC, SE Sumatra PSC, Kakap, and more.

From October 1999 till March 2012, Ginger was an Exploration Manager in Gabon, where he led Libreville-based US & Gabonese teams of Amerda Hess, and mentored them to develop skills and cross cultural interaction and working.

After working in Gabon, Ginger went on to become an Exploration Manager in Northwest Europe and London from March 2002 till September 2003. Here, he was able to establish a new multi-cultural tem, managing change and reorganization, managing the drilling of 2 deep water West of Shetland wells, was able to implement exploration licences for UK, Faroes, Denmark and Norway, where he was also able to set up a new venture programme. With portfolio management and rationalism, Ginger was able to save a further $30 MM.

Afterwards, for approximately 7 months, Ginger worked as an Exploration Manager in the Eastern region of Europe and in London. Then, from February 2004 till June 2006, Ginger was Exploration & Outside Operated Production Manager and Acting Technical Manager in South East Asia and in Kuala Lumpur. There he managed Malaysian and Indonesian exploration assets team, and was able to secure the production license. He also secured Amerda Hess interests in non-operated assets, Managed the South East Asia Technical Resources team, and delivered external audit reserves (DeGolyer & MacNaughton) to Amerda Hess requirements.

In 2006, Ginger moved from company Amerda Hess to Cairn India in New Delhi. There, till June of 2010, Ginger reset exploration strategy and direction, created and led New Ventures group and helped develop new business strategy; secured Sri Lankan and Indian acreage in rounds, as well as the Corporate and major asset evaluations; government/ministerial liaison, and had a $140 MM (net) budget. Whilst his time as Director of Exploration & New Ventures, Ginger also helped with the implementation of new technology to test out, including 5 2D and 3D on and offshore seismic programmes. Ginger was also able to build an exploration portfolio from a risked mean of 65 mmboe at IPO to almost 600mmboe.

In July 2010, Ginger then changed positions, becoming the Director of Subsurface and New Ventures. His team was responsible for delivery of Mangala field EOR project and key FDP’s in Rajasthan block, as well as for pursuing negotiations for further exploration. Ginger was also responsible for the first international exploration operation in Sri Lanka, drilling deepwater wells.

David Ginger, as of September 2012, works for Delonex as it's Executive Director of Exploration and Subsurface.

Education

In June of 1983, Ginger received a BSc degree (1st class) in Geological Science from Leeds University.
