Jud Crandall is a fictional character created by Stephen King who is a primary character in the 1983 novel Pet Sematary. Jud is the neighbour to Louis Creed and his family, and becomes a paternal figure to Louis. Jud introduces Louis to the titular burial ground after his daughter's cat, Church, is killed by a speeding truck. Louis would later use the burial ground to resurrect his young son Gage. In the film adaptations, Jud was portrayed by Fred Gwynne and John Lithgow. The Fred Gwynne interpretation of the character was the basis of a background character on South Park.
