Dr. Alan Grant is a fictional character from the Jurassic Park franchise created by Michael Crichton portrayed by New Zealand actor Sam Neill. Grant is a paleontologist working with his girlfriend, paleobotanist Dr. Ellie Sattler in Montana when he is contacted by InGen CEO John Hammond to visit and give his opinions on "Jurassic Park", a theme park designed by Hammond that features genetically recreated dinosaurs. Grant is based on real life paleontologist, Jack Horner.
Grant is the main protagonist of the novel and Steven Spielberg's 1993 film adaptation of the same name, and learns about acceptance and family throughout the course of the film. Neill reprised his role as Grant for Jurassic Park III, and is expected to return for Jurassic World 3.
