Scissor Lock is a project of Sydney multi-instrumentalist and The Gioconda Smile guitarist Marcus Whale, commenced midway through 2005.

Scissor Lock began with a CD-R released independently, Santa Claus In The Love Image, in October 2005, a compilation of guitar-based experiments recorded in July 2005. Following the less-than-successful recordings of some lengthy demos for a follow up, a 7-track, 56-minute album, Seven Days was written and recorded in a week as an experiment in creativity. The result was uploaded to mp3.com.au. In 2006, demos were commenced and completed for two connected EPs of more post-rock oriented material Above and Below. During this process, three tracks were produced in collaboration with Perth noise artist May 5th, 1813. These were compiled in a 25-minute EP released on French netlabel La Main Gauche. Demos for Above and Below were completed in October, the resulting sound moving through glitch-influenced electronica, loop-based a capella, ambient post-rock and heavily distorted guitar drones. The demos were shelved for the time being. In December, four loop-based improvisations lasting around 10 minutes each, were recorded and compiled as Loops&Errata a free CD-R on Sell Out Records. Above and Below were released together as Above & Below in early February 2007 on Lost Children netlabel, clocking in at just over an hour.

Now in the works are collaborations with Kiwi post-rock group Kill the Zodiac and Majorca/Our Hands In Grey drummer Zak Pidd's Dogboy project. A contribution was recently made to a track by the Melbournian All India Radio, which will surface sometime in the future.

All the while, demos are being conceived and recorded for a full length album. More short run, handmade CD-Rs are also on the cards and should involve the recording of live performances.
