Ron Covell (August XX, 1944 – present), also known as "Professor Hammer" is an American of Italian decent and one of the late 20th and early 21st century's elite custom sheet metal fabricators in the custom automotive and motorcycle industry. The owner of his own custom metal fabrication shop from the 1970's through the 1990's and associated with the construction of several notable custom car and motorcycle projects, Covell is best known for his educational and editorial efforts. Since 1993 he has taught workshops around North America to promote and maintain and skills related to metal shaping and custom fabrication. Skills that were prevalent and in great demand in the 1940's, 50's, and 60's, but that in the 21st century are less common. Covell is also published technical writer and columnist for several periodicals such as Street Rodder, Classic Trucks, Super Rod, Metalcrafter's News, Sport Aviation, and Hot Bike magazines. His longest running effort, the "Professor Hammer" series of articles was introduced in Street Rodder magazine in 1995 and is currently a regular feature in each issue. In 2000 a second "Professor Hammer" article series was launched in Classic Trucks magazine to specific address the needs of truck enthusiasts.
