Title: Accommodation (DTU Website, under "Education")

" `Student rooms’:

A student room is a room in a shared house with other international students (1-10 km from DTU). Facilities (kitchen, bathroom, toilet) are shared with other students. You can rent a student room from DTU. All rooms are fully furnished but you will need to bring your own sheets, pillow & duvet covers, and towels

`Private rooms’:

A private room is a room in a private house (1-10 km from DTU). Facilities (kitchen, bathroom, toilet) are often shared with the owner of the house and sometimes with other students. You must tell your landlord the exact date and time of your arrival in Denmark. All rooms are fully furnished but you will need to bring your own sheets, pillow & duvet covers, and towels.

‘Campus Village':

Campus Village consists of pavilions on the DTU Campus. In the pavilions, you share a kitchen and bathroom with 9–10 other students. Here too all rooms are fully furnished but you will need to bring your own sheets, pillow & duvet covers and towels.

DTU also allocates rooms in halls of residence (1-10 km from DTU). In the halls, you have your own room with en suite bathroom but share kitchen facilities with other students. Again, all rooms are fully furnished but you will need to bring your own sheets, pillow & duvet covers and towels. "

Title: Living expenses

" Students on the MSc programs are required to cover their entire living expenses: meals, accommodation, transport, books, materials and clothing, and any other living costs.

The cost of transport can be high; we cannot accommodate all students close to the campus. During the introduction week you will receive information about the transport system in the Copenhagen area. But please note that international students do not qualify for student discounts in Denmark.

You may find it most economical to buy a monthly travel card entitling you to unlimited use of public transport. The cost of such cards varies between 310 and 1115 DKK depending on the number of zones it covers. Copenhagen and Denmark are zoned throughout.

Cheaper still is the use of a bike. The Copenhagen area has an extensive cycle-path system. We strongly advise you to invest in a bike. You can buy a used bike for around 1000 DKR.

Here are two estimates for student budgets (monthly expenses stated in Danish kroners). These are only estimates and there are as many student budgets as there are students. Budget on the generous side if you can, so as to allow a margin for error or emergency! "

Title: Buddy Office of Buddy Coordination, Technical University of Denmark

"The buddy program is a valuable way of getting acquainted with Danes and Danish culture. A buddy is a Danish student, or an experienced international student, who wants to meet new international students coming to DTU. Buddies do their best to help international students adapt to studying and living in Denmark, and in return they expect to make friends from around the world and to get insight in the life of exchange students. The Buddy organisation is a part of the student association (PF) at DTU and it works on a voluntary basis. "

Title: The flexible study programme is a big advantage at DTU, according to PdD student Ling Feng

" - How did you originally became aware of Denmark and DTU as a potential study option?

"During the fourth year of my Bachelor program Beijing Polytechnic University started its official co-operation with DTU so a lot of information about DTU became available. At that time we furthermore didn’t have to pay tuition fee so if you considered going abroad DTU was a natural choice. With some economical support from my family it was suddenly a possibility for me to go to Denmark."

- What about finding accommodation and other practicalities?

"Getting a place to live was not difficult. Before I arrived I got information on how to apply for accommodation and I got a room at the Campus Village. Getting an attractive place to live is however much more difficult. I stayed at the Campus Village the first 6 months because in the beginning there is not enough time to look for alternatives and you have to adjust to both a new environment and to the teaching. This year many more international students will arrive and there are probably going to be some shortage of accommodation." "

Title: Can Robots Mindstorm?: Survival Guide

" We have rented a place called Campus Village, which is located on DTU’s property, 200 meters away from where the lectures will be held, and 500 meters from the party-place. The village is made out of office-containers turned in to dormitory flats. "

" ¿Where? Being honest, if you are going to stay just one year, forget about leaving in Copenhaguen. Lyngby is a small town 12 kilometres far from Copnehaguen. It’s not far away but going and returning every day it’s annoying. Allright, it’s not such a nice village, there’s nothing much to do there, but the Erasmush atmosphere during the week is located in the university and the sourrunding places. You will have enough time to spend in CPH during the weekend. I know some people who wanted to live in CPH to live the city, if you are one of those, have in mind that the travelling will be really expensive… "

" Accommodation By using the university's housing programme, you can get assistance finding accommodation, which is important in Copenhagen where accommodation is scarce. One offer of housing is guaranteed. Some of the housing is demountable buildings on campus called the 'village'. Most housing offered is in the Lyndby area close to the university. The University accommodates students in student residences, which are in the form of a single room or alternatively assists finding private accommodation. Students do not get a transport concession, and bus and train fairs are very expensive. Buying a bike and living close to the campus is a good option. Students apply for accommodation after receiving an acceptance letter. "
