Bio
[edit]About me
[edit]I'm a student at Everett Community College. I am currently studying for a business degree, but I'm still not completely sure what I'm planning to do. There are too many different careers I find myself being interested in; that's why I enjoy learning about them at school. By the time I graduate I hope I've learned enough about myself to know what I want to do in the future. Outside of school my interests are exercising, playing games (sometimes), and reading. Most of the reading I do isn't actual literature, but mostly consists of Japanese comics or manga. My current favorite manga is One Piece. One Piece is one of the most daunting anime one could start watching. It began when mangaka, Eiichiro Oda, started publishing One Piece in Weekly Shonen Jump’s manga magazine in 1997.[1]
My Wikipedia interests
[edit]I never really used Wikipedia so much that I would remember and specific interests. I do know if I ever wanted to give a good summary of an anime or manga I'd recommend anyone, a Wikipedia page will most likely be the first thing to pop up. I've never really taken the liberty to edit anything on Wikipedia, and while I do know Wikipedia is an unreliable source for research, I do think it is reliable for basic searches. I also find that using Wikipedia to look for sources is really useful and I plan on doing that more often.
Article Evaluation
[edit]Because One Piece is one of my favorite media of all time, I decided to look at the One Piece Wikipedia page. Going through this page, there are three elements I would like to comment on: the voice, the citations, and completeness of the article.
Voice/Tone
[edit]Given that this is a media franchise with lots of fans, I assumed the page is going to be kept up to date by fans who may have a bias for the series. Surprisingly, throughout the majority of the article, a neutral voice is maintained and any praise or critiques are usually quotes from polls and interviews. A good example of this is in the Reception section of the article, specifically the Critical response part.
Citations
[edit]Due to popularity, there is lots of sources and citations for this article. A lot of these sources are interviews of the author himself, so I think they are reliable for the information being served. I'm not sure I'm grounded enough in calling any of these sources biased, but I do feel that it is worthwhile to mention that some of the interviews are of close association with the author and some of the interviews are published in the volumes of One Piece. Most of the citations are old, but I would say they are up-to-date. There is a lot of links, but based on the ones I did click, none of them seem to be dead.
Completeness
[edit]The article feels very complete. It included media on every form of One Piece media that I knew of and even had me learning about ones I've never heard of. Everything that isn't covered in this specific article is covered in articles that are linked. I felt that most of the info presented in each section was relevant to the specific section. The only thing I did notice there was a lack of info on was "Devil Fruits", which are pretty important to the plot of One Piece. Some improvements I would make are to make a separate article listing all the different Devil Fruits and their powers, similar to the separate article for all the characters in One Piece.
Conclusion
[edit]I feel this article sums up most aspects of One Piece quite well. The article presented itself in a well-mannered neutral tone, citations seem to be up-to-date and reliable, and while it may need some improvement, I do think the article is very detailed and complete.
