Abram Inn Motel is a motel located in Arlington, Texas The motel was built in 1985 and is part of the Midway Estates subdivision, and sits on 1.0346 acres of land which is zoned as commercial(F1). The property contains thirty-two rent-able rooms as well as two rooms above the main office normally occupied by the individuals who own or are managing the property
History
[edit]The building on this property was constructed sometime in 1985. There is very limited information on this subject.
Patel Family Period (1993-2015)
[edit]The motel was sold in 1993 to Laxmi Hospitality LLC[1], a company operated by two brothers, Dalpat and Ishwar Patel. During this time, there were were numerous documented issues at the motel involving prostitution, the manufacture and sell of drugs, and a constant presence of known affiliated gang members who remained on the property with current residents.
The Arlington Texas police department would receive many calls for service to the motel during this period, and made numerous arrests for various charges including weapons charges, possession of controlled substances, prostitution, and copper theft. This was one of numerous low-budget motels the Arlington Police would later target in an effort to clean up the city called Operation Spotlight.[2]
The motel also had a reputation for being a love hotel, or no-tell motel, as it would cheaply rent out rooms at all hours allowing individuals to engage in sexual activity. By doing this, the motel was also aiding and abetting prostitution.
Property Management Lease-Out Period (2015-Present)
[edit]In 2015, the motel was leased out for five years to a private management company by the Patel family. This was done partly due to the failing health of Dalpat Patel, who had numerous heart issues during the year.
Renovation & Rental Rate Hikes
[edit]After signing the lease, numerous changes were made to the property including the installation of new air conditioners and flat screen televisions in every room, re-carpeting of rooms and putting new furniture in the rooms. Wifi internet was also implemented. The weekly and monthly rates were also raised significantly after the completion of the renovations, with monthly rental rates going up to $800 a month or more. A monthly fee was also implemented on top of the rental rate for a pet deposit if residents had an animal.
Controversies
[edit]These are a few of the documented issues.
No-Tell Motel
[edit]During the period the Patel brothers ran the motel, upkeep was not maintained, and the motel started to suffer. To make up for lost revenue, they would start illegally renting out rooms by the hour, and the motel become known as a no-tell motel or love motel. Rooms would be rented out multiple times during a night, resulting in cash income that would mainly go unreported.
Criminal Haven
[edit]The motel would also become a hangout for known affiliated gang members including the Aryan BrotherHood of Texas (ATB), Aryan Circle, and Peckerwoods. They would either rent out rooms or stay in a current resident's room where they would engage in the sale and manufacture of methamphetamine, robbery, theft of copper, prostitution, and other money-making activities.
